Sikh Temples and Tucson's Federal Court

Image
The Sikh Khanda Sunday morning a christianist, a white supremacist with bad taste in band names, shot up a car park and then walked into a Wisconsin Sikh gurdwara , or temple. He killed six people, and wounded four more before he was killed by the responding police. His name was Wade Michael Page, and he was a terrorist. **Update: The FBI has released a statement that says Page shot himself in the temple, rather than being shot by police responders. I'm sorry for posting the information incorrectly; I will always attempt to update with corrections.** I have tried to sit down and write about this since it happened. It's Wednesday now, and I still can't wrap my head around the whole thing. I imagine that the victims and their families are going through that, but a million times worse. Who in their right mind would want to harm a Sikh ?! It's like wanting to murder Amish people, or kidnap and pimp out Vestal virgins! I mean, really! Sikhism is an egalitarian rel...

The Freeh Report, on Penn State's complicity...

Trigger Warning: Today I'm referencing the Penn State rape cases, and the report Director Freeh put out today, from his investigation. As always, when I talk about abuse, or abusers, I include contact information. Here they are. If you, or someone you know is being abused or is thinking of ending their life, please get help.  SNAP: 1.877.SNAPHEALS (1.877.762.7432) RAINN's online hotline or call 1.800.656.HOPE (4673) The Trevor Project: 1.866.488.7386 The Hotline (DV): 1.800.799.SAFE (7233) National Suicide Prevention Hotline: 1.800.273.8255   This will be my final blog about the Sandusky-Penn State sex abuse catastrophe. I might blurb when the various sentences comes down. I hadn't intended to write about it again, after Sandusky was convicted. But this morning I was looking at CNN and found a vid that disturbed me greatly. You can see it, and two others here . [Yeah, I know, CNN's vids aren't laid out the best but it's worth the hassle ...

Sandusky trial ends... justice is served but the victims still suffer

Friday night, about ten pm for you on the East Coast, the jury came back with a verdict in the trial of The People versus Jerry Sandusky [I'm not sure if Pennsylvania lists their cases as The People of <insert county here>, so bear with me.] You can see a breakdown of the charges and verdicts, here . CNN did an excellent job of covering the story. I followed that trial so closely, that I dreamed about it! I know I'm not the only person so involved in it; I'd venture to say the world was riveted at times. Such is the nature of sexual assault cases involving children-- look at the fall out from the repeated, institutionalised rape and abuse of children by the Roman Catholic clergy-- we want to protect children from such evils, and when they're abused anyway, we all feel like we're watching a train crash... we just can't look away, no matter how revolted, angered and sick we feel. This might have been different than the “usual” sensational tri...

Vigilantism, self-defense and child abuse. Right or Wrong?

Trigger Warning: This blog deals with my thoughts and feelings stemming from a news story about a man murdering the molester/rapist of his daughter. I briefly discuss vigilantism, and self-defence. It's not a deep blog, but it's sorta all over, meanders a bit, and might be difficult to read if you're the victim of molestation or rape. If you have been abused, please seek help. See your school counsellor, call the police, or go to the hospital. You don't have to face it alone, and there are people who can and want to, help you. About a week ago a father in Texas beat a man to death. We heard about it, nationwide, because he walked in on a man molesting the man's daughter. Like most parents, the man freaked out and intervened. The molester was beaten to death-- one of those almost trite "beaten about the head and shoulders" things. The father was very contrite, and seemed to feel genuinely sorry for killing the man. As of last Friday, the gra...

Memorial Day, 2012

Memorial Day. What does it mean to you? It was suppose to be a day of solemn remembrance of all those who died serving our country in times of war. Our flags are at half-staff until noon, and then raised fully in remembrance. We honour the dead, and the living. May those who died never have died in vain, we cry! We strive to be thoughtful of their memories, their sacrifices, to be worthy of them. For me, it's a day of sadness. This Monday, amidst the barbeques, the "first day at the beach" excursions, the parades, the flowers, the little American flags for the kids, the shopping, the sales, the mindless consumerism that Americans do so well. This Monday I won't take part in those things; I will take time and thank the spirits of the people who died while serving in the Armed Forces. I will remember that their energy is no long among the living, and any spark that they had, that connected them to us is extinguished. I will be thankful that they were willing to ...

Musings on April 19th, 1995

Trigger Warning: This blog discusses the Oklahoma City Bombing, touches on Waco and Ruby Ridge and includes a sorta vulgar rant against christians using their gawd as a reason to be terrorists. I also call out christians, or co-called christians on their own terrorism. It meanders a bit, but I didn't clean that up; I left the blog in its original, organic form. If that sort of thing bothers you, you'll want to skip today's' blog. Thank you.  April 19, 1995 The Bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, in Oklahoma City, OK. I read Addicting Information, and it's a hellava good site if you're curious about the entire world, and a flaming liberal like I am. Thursday I followed a link , and I sat silently, remembering. I was 17 years old, a senior in high school. We didn't hear about it until after lunch, when the principle announced there had been an accident in Oklahoma. Now, OK City is a long way from po-dunk, red-neck Bangor, Michig...

Sandusky in court.

Trigger Warning: This blog will touch on the Penn State child rape, again, as Jerry Sandusky is getting ready to get into court. Again, I'm sarcastic, and angry; again, I'm pissed off. Not so much profanity, though. These three numbers and URLs I'm including, again. I think it's important to keep these not just for ourselves, but for people we know who might need them. Someone always knows if abuse is going on, and it's up to us, to be that someone who helps.  If you've been hurt, are being abused, or know someone who is being abused, please, call SNAP (Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests) or 1.877.SNAPHEALS , or RAINN(Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network)   or 1.800.656.HOPE; The Trevor Project is also a beautiful resource for LGBTQI teens, 1.866.488.7386 Finally, here is a list of state, toll-free numbers (some have web pages, too) where you can call and report suspected child abuse. I got it from the national child protective service...
